Labour market statistics, Scotland: January 2008

Labour Force Survey data for Scotland indicate that the trend in the employment rate may have levelled off after increasing, and the rate in the latest period is not significantly different from a year ago. The trend in the unemployment rate may be levelling off after decreasing, and the rate in the latest period is not significantly different from a year ago.

Data for the three months to November 2007 show the seasonally adjusted employment rate at 76.4 per cent, up 1.1 percentage points on a year earlier. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.9 per cent, down 0.3 percentage points on a year earlier.

The claimant count was down in the year to December 2007.
